Farm Credit of Southern Colorado (FCSC) is seeking a Controller to join our team. The chosen candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to the accounting team, preparing financial reports, and leading all accounting functions in our Colorado Springs Administration Office.

As one of the Farm Credit System’s associations, Farm Credit of Southern Colorado is a robust organization serving 1,300 member / owners in 31 counties throughout Southern Colorado. Farm Credit of Southern Colorado is a member-owned cooperative that provides a wide range of financial products and risk management services for agricultural producers, agribusinesses, and farmland and rural homeowners.

Position Summary:

Coordinates the accounting function of the organization including; general ledger accounting, accounts payable, cash management, regulatory, stockholder and tax reporting, patronage program and various other financial functions. Develops and presents financial reports to management and occasionally the Board of Directors. Develops, monitors and reports on annual operating budget. Assists in annual business plan preparation. Develops and maintains accounting policies and procedures. Works with other Association staff to coordinate activities with financial and operations auditors. Analyzes information and serves as a professional resource for association personnel for information related to accounting and financial operations of the Association.

Minimum Qualifying Characteristics:

  • Education including a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 7 years of accounting and audit experience and 2 years of supervision experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • CPA required with preferred Farm Credit experience and experience with patronage program administration.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles, practices and methods
  • Expert knowledge in balancing and reconciling accounts
  • Knowledge of audit principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook sufficient to create, update and save a variety of documents
  • Skill in selecting, managing, coaching, motivating and developing an accounting team
  • Skill in developing and implementing accounting/financial policies and procedures
  • Skill in interpreting and applying GAAP
  • Skill in completing tax and regulatory forms
  • Skill in preparing financial statements and reports
  • Skill in preparing annual operating budget
  • Skill in maintaining internal controls
