Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company LLC (“Greenbacker”) is a publicly registered, non-traded limited liability company that acquires and manages a diversified portfolio of income-producing renewable energy power facilities, energy efficiency projects and other sustainable development investments. In general, Greenbacker is a buyside infrastructure fund that currently invests in power generation assets. As part of our initial strategy, we have focused on solar, wind, and energy efficiency projects but are also broadening out into other technologies such as hydro, transmission, battery storage, geothermal, landfill gas, and other sustainable power infrastructure assets. Currently, we are in the middle of a multiple-year continuous equity offering and to date have raised over $450 million in equity and we look to continuing to grow our AUM significantly over the next twelve to eighteen months.

Job Purpose/Background:

As Greenbacker continues to raise capital and grow our investment portfolio, an opportunity has arisen to join Greenbacker Administration, which primarily provides asset management, financial, operational and administrative support and managerial oversight for Greenbacker. While the role will report to Greenbacker’s Accounting Manager, the selected individual will need to work independently to oversee the certain accounting and financial reporting functions related to Greenbacker. As a small and evolving firm, the responsibilities will be broad, varied and all encompassing. The role is based in our office in Portland, Maine and offers competitive pay and an attractive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Accounting Manager with month, quarter, and year-end close procedures including compiling, preparing and maintaining workpapers and documents supporting the trial balance.
  • Reviewing and understanding various contracts related to the assets under management.
  • Assisting the Accounting Manager in complying with a growing number of external financial statement audit responsibilities.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure accounting procedures are compliant with US GAAP and internal controls are followed.
  • Assisting with cross-department projects, including developing and maintaining timelines and checklists for multiple projects to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Maintaining organization and seizing opportunities to improve efficiency and work quality in a constantly growing and changing landscape.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required, Masters preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in accounting is preferred.
  • Advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Oracle ERP Cloud or other accounting ERP software programs is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive and grow quickly in a fast-growing company.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with a thirst for learning.
  • Highly motivated, independent, results-oriented, and possesses a strong sense of ownership.
